(Day 22:) Rise Past It - Level 2

Last week we talked about what it truly means to "rise past" the things we face. We talked about how we must look beyond our present troubles and our past hurts in order to grow spiritually. Now we must dive deeper into how we can actually practice this in our own lives. After all, letting go of our burdens is far easier said than done. So how, then, should we approach them?

Rise! In 66 days

Over the last 21 Days, we have talked about what it truly means to "rise past" the things we face. We talked about how we must look beyond our present troubles and our past hurts in order to grow spiritually. Now we must dive deeper into how we can actually practice this in our own lives. After all, letting go of our burdens is far easier said than done. So how, then, should we approach them?

You need to find them

First, we have to identify them. Sometimes we are painfully aware of the troubles that are weighing us down. But other times, we may not even recognize the obstacles that stand in our way. When we become distracted, we tend to let sin and darkness in through the back doors of our hearts. That's why it is essential to constantly be reflecting on our relationship with God, praying that He would convict us of sin that even we are not aware of. Once we know exactly what it is that is in our way, we can learn to rise past it.

You need to see your life without them

Next, we have to envision life without them. It can be hard to let go of something that you've been carrying with you for so long. It's natural to want to stay inside your comfort zone, clinging to what is familiar. Often, we talk ourselves into keeping the very things that are hurting us, simply because we fear change. But that is not how we are meant to live. We have to trust that whatever God has planned for us is greater than anything we could plan for ourselves. And sometimes, in order for that plan to unfold, we have to endure change.

Meditate & Speak What You Want!

Finally, we have to have faith. Meditate on Jesus' words in Matthew 17:20: "For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you." If we want to rise past our pain, we must believe that we can. We must have a mindset of hope and positivity. It's also important to note that faith requires action. If you are in a toxic situation, distance yourself from it. If you are haunted by a memory, confront it and then let it go. Faith is a balance of trusting God and being obedient in our actions.

Trust the Process

There is no one-size-fits-all for this process. It may take weeks, months, or even years to rise past it. But if you persevere, trusting in Christ for your strength, you can be assured that your labor will not be in vain. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." As you fight this battle, be persistent in prayer. Develop your relationship with God through His Word. In His perfect timing, He will move that mountain in your way and enable you to become who you are meant to be in Him.
